He nodded silently to Sparkspirit's words, rising to his paws. Once his leader held his gaze, he felt like he couldn't turn away. Finally breaking free of the stare, he sighed and shook his head.

"I would like to mentoe her Sparkspirit but..." His voice trailed off and he turned his amber gaze back on his leader.

"If only you knew the truth, then maybe you might understand." That was the only answer he could give, or more likely he wanted to give. Telling the truth about his past scared him, and maybe if he could confide in someone, it would take away the pressure. Turning abruptly, back to Sparkspirit, he followed Brindlepaw's scent. She has to know from me.

Sparkspirit quickly bounded ahead and rested his orange tail on Amberstone's spine.

"Amberstone," he mewed soothingly in a quiet tone, "you know that I'll listen to anything you want to tell me, and your secrets are safe with me. I won't breathe a word."

ooc; GAH. Writer's block.

He stopped moving as the touch of Saprkspirit's tail on his shoulders was notiuced. Amberstone sighed before tunring to face his leader once more.

"I now I can confide in you Sparkspirit, truely I do. I amjust worried about your reaction to what I have done." He siad with a shamed look on his face. His tail dropped and his head sank lower into his chest. Flashbacks of his terrible first days of a warrior haunted him, causing him to shudder.

OOC; Sorry for the lateness...

IC; "Amberstone, I won't judge you. I won't tell any cat. I just want to know. Please, tell me." Sparkspirit meowed this in a soothing tone, doing his best to create a feeling of safety in this dark tom's heart. Ignorance was the root of prejudice, he knew. It was important to understand. Bracing himself for whatever would come out of Amberstone's mouth next, he prepared to be sent spiraling into a story from far away.

He realized that any cat in the new Clan could have a dark history: he was clueless, really. But he musn't judge them; he must believe with all his heart that they intended to make a fresh start. It was key that he trust every cat.

ooc// Sorry for the lateness as well.

A moment of silence passed between the two cats, not one uttering a sound. The faint twitter of a bird, the crack of a twig; the only things heard. Amberstone's mind was suddenly filled with questions again. Where to begin... what to say. It almost seemed as if words could not describe what had happened, like the silence would remain there forever until he took a deep breath.

"Sparkspirit..." He began, hoping he would not regret the words coming out from his jaws. "I hope you can understand that I am not the cat I once was and the crime I have done only happened because I was young and confused." He stopped at that, muscles relaxing for a brief moment. His amber eyes never reached his leader's, and he remained looking at the ground.

Brindlepaw could here speaking in the distance, someone was talking with Sparkspirit. Glancing at the figure she could just make out the build and a slight color of fur. It was Amberstone. He came back to talk with the leader. She tried to strain her ears to listen to the conversation, but nothing but murmurs were heard by her.
"Drat," she whispered to herself. She hoped that Amberstone didn't hate her.

Padding over to the two toms she looked at them, once each, before entering the conversation. She took a few steps forward and sat next to both toms.
"Hello," she whispered hoping that they wouldn't mind her interruption.

Startled, Sparkspirit looked away from Amberstone's troubled eyes. This she-cat deserved to know what was going on. But he knew that the tortoiseshell wouldn't want to confide in another cat if he'd been so guarded with his leader. Trying to make his words soothing, the ginger tom spoke to Brindlepaw. "I need to talk with Amberstone privately," he mewed, "so would you mind waiting over there, by that hickory?" He nodded toward an ancient tree, stripped of all leaves by age and the howling winds. It was an easy landmark, the trunk thick, bark twisted, branches long and spindly. He tapped Brindlepaw affectionately with his tail on the back of the head, silently dismissing her. Sparkspirit trusted her to obey. It was in her nature to be agreeable. She'll make a wise cat, he mused, before turning his attention back to the dominant matter.

"Amberstone, I believe you. Any cat can change their ways, and young cats are nearly always confused." Lowering his voice slightly, he continued in a rush of dialogue. "Take Brindlepaw, for example. A cat like you would do her good. She seems self-conscious. I know you would be perfect for her." Restoring his meow to its previous volume, the tone was reassuring.

"I will hear your story, Amberstone, and make no judgement. You can trust me. I only wish to know."

Brindlepaw listened to Sparkspirit's words and then looked to the old tree. Feeling the light tap of his tail on her head she nodded. Without a word, she padded over to the tree and waited silently for the two toms to finished. Her mind was asking thousands of questions per second. She had no idea what they were talking about. The leader had picked a good spot for her. She could only hear the branches above scraping across each other.
"I hope they are mad at me," she whispered to herself as she watched the two toms talk. A shiver splurged through her body as a chilling wind cut through her pelt.

His eyes landed upon the young she-cat and his heart skipped a beat. Amberstone franticlly looked at Sparkspirit, hoping he would dismiss the young feline. Relief slided through him; relaxing his tense muscles as his leader explained the situation. He silently hoped she was not offended. Turning back to Sparkspirit, he gathered up his hind legs and planted himself upon the earth. Pawing at hte grass silently, he finally managed to start his story.

"I guess I should start from the beginning. My father, Stonesky, was the deputy in my old Clan. He obeyed every command from my leader, Etchedstar and I truely thought he was an amazing cat; myself thinking Iwas lucky to have him as a father. I was wrong." He stopped and took a few breaths before continuing, nearing the part he dreaded.

"My father began to tell me these... stories about my great leader. I heard from his tongue that she had killed her warriors for pleasure and sought to throwing kits into the woods because they were inferior. Enraged, my father told me of a plan; one to end my Clanmates suffering. He did not ever mention the crime I had to commit for his sake. "

Amberstone stopped abruptly once more, almost unwilling to go any farther. He knew that by telling his past to his leader, a punishment might result but to end his suffering; he would risk it.

"A few days later; rouges attacked. Etchedstar took her best warriors with her to stop the cats from reaching camp and thats when it happened. My father commanded me to kill my leader, to take her away and send her to StarClan. Blinded by the stories... the lies, I killed her. I clawed and bit like I was attacking 10 rouge cats when I was only attacking one. She fell before my paws and then he turned on me. My own father' flesh and blood sold me out. He told everyone that I was behind her death and I was out to get the leader since birth."

"I have done murder Sparkspirit. You are the only cat I have ever told about what I have done. I only hope I made the right choice."

ooc; Well written, Lauren. -applauds-
ic; Sparkspirit sighed and pondered what he had heard. Treachery such as Amberstone's life story was riddled with was not a far leap from the horrible monstrosities he had witnessed during the Fall. It seemed odd to him that this tom could possibly blame himself when this horrible father had filled his head with folly. It made his muscles tense and his fur stand up on his spine and tail. He had been born to parents who were willing to drive their own Clan to war, over a few measly pieces of prey. What it must be like to have your own sire invoke that kind of torment upon their own kit was beyond his reach.

He noticed the confessed criminal beside him, and was filled with compassion. He gazed at his Clanmate with forgiving eyes.

"Amberstone, I know that you are remorseful for what you did, and I also know that you are innocent. Your father is to blame. You were but a puppet, and there's no reason why I cannot trust you. I trust you more for opening up to me. I know that took courage."

Admiration in his eyes, he was still marveling at the tom's burden as he called back Brindlepaw.

ooc// Thanks Rachael. That took some time.

bic// At first, he couldn't find the right words to say, the tone in which to say them or even if he had heard what his ears had told him. All of his life was about hiding his one mistake; one mess-up and now to find out that he should have come clean a long time ago made him feel relieved.

His amber eyes scorched with thanks towards his leader, the one who accepted him now. Flicking his tail over to touch Sparkspirit's shoulder, he grunted in a low tone.

"You have no idea how happy it makes me feel to hear those words. I felt that I would be punished for my crime and yet, I am wrong. Sparkspirit... I must ask that you tell no one of this conversation. It would upset me greatly and I am not sure if the Clan is prepeared for such news."

He added the last part in a whisper, only for Sparkspirit to hear in case young Brindlepaw caught any of what had transpired.

Brindlepaw watched the conversation from afar her ears twitching trying to figure out what the conversation was about. It seemed that Amberstone was talking a lot, but what about? The question was haunting her the whole time she was waiting to be called back. Occupying herself, she pawed at the snow making pretty 'pictures' with her pads. When she looked up she saw Sparkspirit motioning her towards him.

Walking slowly she tried her best to not get her paws too wet and cold. As she sepped in snow she flicked her paw in the air, but continued to walk. A few tail lengths away from the two cats she began walking faster. She could here the last word Amberstone had said, but thought nothing of it. It was none of her business anyways. If they wanted her to know they would have let her listened to them.

"Right. So is Amberstone going to be my mentor?" she asked looking to both Sparkspirit and Amberstone hoping her leader would say yes.

Sparkspirit hoped with all his might that Amberstone would agree to this. Now that his secret was off his back, he'd become less skittish and throw himself into the wellbeing of the Clan. Brindlepaw was dying of curiosity; he could read it on her face as though it was a mark burned there. Part of him wanted to force this responsibility on the tortoiseshell, but he knew that would be wrong.

So he compromised. Resting his amber gaze on his warrior, he stared questioningly, waiting for him to answer.

ooc; So short, but I've no idea what else to write.

His deep blue eyes opened to see sunlight filtering through the warriors' den. His pelt was warm with it's rays, and as he stood he could feel the shifting of another warm body next to his. " Get up Hollyfrost," he mumbled pokeing her with a multicolored fur paw. His eyes squinted just getting used to the watery sunlight that filled his eyes. He sought his gaze to a young, dark ginger she-cat, whom was shifting restlessly. His tail lashed with a frustration, Hollyfrost was always having some sort of problem waking up, and with that sort of attitude, she would never become a mentor. About four fox lengths away, his keen ears picked up a conversation of faint mews, but none the less mews he reconized.

Hollyfrost groaned and shifted in her sleep, " Not now Earthstorm... I'm hunting...." she snored. She flexed her long claws on her moss bed as she shifted restlessly in her sleep. It wasn't untill Hollowpromise poked her again with his multicolored paw, did she leap from her nest with a snarl, " Frozenshard!" she growled, her mind not quite focused. But as she grew used to the light, her eyes shifted and she dipped her head, " Sorry Hollowpromise, I was dreaming of my kin."

Hollowpromise looked at the she-cat with sympathy, " It's alright, I understand." he meowed thoughtfully, he licked a paw as he looked at Hollyfrost smooth down her ruffled fur. He saw her green eyes flash as she muttered an a appology. He gave her a friendly flick of his tail and padded outside. As his eyes grew acustomed to the light, he spotted his leader.

His gaze went from Sparkspirit to Brindlepaw automaticlly and he knew she wanted an answer. He was willing to take her on as an apprentice since now he didn't have to carry around his burben anymore. He felt proud that he had the courage to tell his leader and now he turned to face Brindlepaw.

"I would be honored to train you Brindlepaw. It would be a pleasure to have you as my apprentice." His amber eyes trailed over to Sparkspirit, hoping those were the right words to say. All he could do now was wait.

Brindlepaw smiled when she finally heard the words she had been wanting to hear all day. Joy filled her heart as she knew that her mentor would be a great one. She would finally be fulfilling what her mother had meant for her do all along. She was officially an apprentice of ValleyClan. Her pause lasted a few minutes. Words floated around in her mind as she tried to find the right ones to say to both Sparkspirit and Amberstone, her new mentor.

Finally words began to stumble out of her mouth, "I am grateful for the chance I am here at this moment in time to train with someone like you. I am sure there could be no other warrior that would be able to train me. Thank you."

It was then she turned to Sparkspirit, the one who gave her this life.
"I thank you as well. With out your approval I would not be able to train under Amberstone. I wouldn't be able to be here with you two and play with my new friends. I truly give much thanks to both," she told the two and waited for a reply whether it was a nod or something else.

Momentarily stunned by the young cat's sophistication and respect, Sparkspirit let his warm honey-colored eyes to burn a whole in the apprentice's eyes. She was so mature, so...controlled for her young age, and he was shocked to realize that some of the Clan's warriors had not yet achieved this level of quiet gratitude. Without words to express his emotions, he simply stood like a bewildered kit for a few moments, the realization sinking in: he had made his first apprentice, one of the most important acts a leader could carry out. With a shake to clear his head, he let out an authority-filled meow.

"We'll hold the apprenticeship ceremony tonight," he stated, eyes scanning Amberstone's mottled pelt meticulously. "You'll want to get some rest, Brindlepaw, before you have to stay awake all night." He shivered, remembering his long night of vigil -- as his parents plotted against WindClan. Even then, it had been a life-changing experience; losing 'kit' was not something a cat could pass of as nothing.

Sparkspirit could hear a rustling from behind him. Obviously some cat was hunting. Lowering his voice, he voiced his observation to the warrior and apprentice. "Keep your pawsteps light," he cautioned, "unless you want your ears clawed off by an angry hunter." Dodging potentially noisy obstacles, he picked his way back to camp, meditation far from over.

Hollowpromise let out a patient sigh as he watched the leader of his clan speak with Amberstone and Brindelpaw. His needs could wait. After all, he was deputy, so his needs came after those of the others. He shook his multicolored pelt and padded over to the fresh-kill pile. With a sudden thought he decided to go hunting. His paws steps light, and his mind fixated on somthing else, he had no idea he was about to run, head on with Sparkspirit....

Hollyfrost let out a irritated growl. She wanted to sleep for a while longer, but she knew that the deputy would be back here complaining that she wasn't up. She thrashed her tail mutiniously as she stood. Her eyes glittered anger, and her fur puffed up twice it's size. But it was only after she relaxed her pelt, did she pad outside to greet the morning.

Amberstone was grateful to hear an approval from Brindlepaw. She had spoken like a true warrior even though she was just becoming an apprentice. Then hearing that the naming ceremony would be tonight over-joyed him. He would actually have an apprentice and be a true warrior.

His eyes trailed after Sparkspirit and landed on Brindlepaw. The young cat was going to grow up to become a great warrior... he could tell. Her eyes sparked with determination and her heart was in the right place. He gave a nod to the young apprentice before turning to follow Sparkspirit back to camp... where he turle belonged.
